Simen Velle, FpU, and Margit Martinsen Bye, MDG, met for a heated debate on Dagsnytt 18 today. The former claims he was misunderstood and refused to apologize after posting a message on Instagram on Friday. The text read: “Radical climate protesters are ruining the climate cause. Agree?”, illustrated by three people behind bars with the caption “The climate hooligans should go to jail.” The post was deleted after TV 2 made contact.

In January, everything looked good for FrP with 24.5% in VG’s party barometer, now down to 21.5%. At that time, it appeared that Sylvi Listhaug had succeeded in taming outspoken party members, raising the question of whether it would last. FrP seems to be cursed with Pandora’s box. From time to time, someone has to lift the lid, and out come toxic comments.

Over time, it has seemed that those who open Pandora’s box in FrP do not believe that its contents represent misfortune – rather that it appeals to voters. It may be true that voters are influenced by mischievous politicians, Trump comes to mind, but whether this is a good strategy to win Norwegian voters these days is highly doubtful.
